Tynedale Hospice at Home joins national campaign to help protect the future of hospice care

Hospice Legacy

Tynedale Hospice at Home is joining hospices across England, Scotland and Wales this September for the return of This is Hospice Care, a national campaign asking people to look again at what hospice care means – and help ensure it is there for generations to come.

Now in its second year, the Hospice UK campaign brings together hospices across the country to show the difference hospice care can make to people living with serious illness and to the families and friends around them.

Across West Northumberland, Tynedale and Ponteland, Tynedale Hospice at Home’s team of healthcare professionals provide care shaped around what matters to people and families.

It can be the possibility of remaining at home, surrounded by the people and things you know. The reassurance of having someone to turn to when you are unsure what comes next. The confidence to care for someone you love. Time together to be a husband, wife, partner, sibling, daughter or son before being a carer. For many local families, that support can be the difference between an isolating, frightening experience and one they are able to face together, with confidence and dignity.

For Tynedale Hospice at Home, protecting the future of hospice care means making sure those possibilities remain open to people and families in the years ahead.

Alice Langley, Chief Executive of Tynedale Hospice at Home, said:

“Serious illness changes everything — not only for the person who is ill, but for everyone who loves them. Our nurses and healthcare professionals bring the skill and experience to manage complex symptoms and pain, so people can be cared for safely at home rather than in hospital.”

This care helps families hold onto what matters most: time together, ordinary moments, and the chance to be a husband, wife, parent or child again.

“This campaign is securing a future that cannot be taken for granted, Tynedale Hospice at Home receives only a small proportion of its funding from statutory sources and relies on the generosity of local people to keep Hospice at Home care available for generations to come. We want people in our community to have the same levels of support in ten, twenty and thirty years’ time.”

One of the ways that future care is already being secured is through Gifts in wills. Those gifts create a connection between generations of local families: a decision someone made years ago is helping make care possible for somebody today, just as a decision made now could become part of another family’s experience many years from now.

Alice added:

“Most of us will never know the people whose lives a Gift in our Will might one day touch. I think there is something very special about that.

“What we can know is that something we choose to do today can help another person have care that respects what matters to them, and another family have support around them when they need it.”
