“It was like the cavalry arriving. It really was. It was such a relief to able to share mum’s care with people who knew exactly what to do.”
These are words that Barry Glendinning used to describe the support his mum received from Tynedale Hospice at Home’s nursing care team in the final days of her life.
It’s thanks to the continued support of our community that we are able to provide this vital care for families in the familiar surroundings of their own home, exactly when they need it.
Barry said: “Towards the end of mum’s illness, things were getting very hard but thanks to the nursing care team at Tynedale Hospice at Home we were able to ensure that she could stay at home in those final difficult days just as she wanted, surrounded by the things and people she loved. It made those last days so much easier knowing that she was as comfortable as possible in the familiar surroundings of her own home. We are so grateful for that.”
50% of people die in hospital – but only 3% of us actually want to. These are stark facts, but they are the reality.
Every day, Tynedale Hospice at Home provides end of life nursing care to people in our community. In the last year, we supported over 100 people who wanted to die at home surrounded by their family and the things they love.
We recently launched a campaign to encourage people to give a regular gift to Tynedale Hospice at Home so that we can give even more people the choice to die at home if they wish.
Charlotte Pearson, Fundraising Manager at Tynedale Hospice at Home said, “We are calling on our amazing community to help. By choosing to give a regular monthly gift, you will be helping us to plan ahead and make long-term improvements for everyone who needs our support. A regular gift allows us to plan for the future because we know that each month, we will have a steady income stream that we can rely upon. “
