Our History

The charity was established in 1993. Here are some milestones over the years.

The charity was started by Hexham residents Ish Fawcett, a registered nurse, and Edith Russell in 1993 after Edith placed an advert in the local paper to assess demand. The duo soon were inundated with cash donations and offers from volunteers willing to help launch the service alongside those wanting help. Soon after, an anonymous donor generously left a £50K legacy, allowing the charity to become a viable organisation offering free-at-the-point-of access hospice care. The mission to ease the end-of-life journey has seen the breadth of services widen from registered nurses to complementary therapy, patient transport and pre and post bereavement support and counselling.
