Gift Aid
Gift Aid can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate, without costing you anymore.
How do I opt-in?
When you donate online, check the ‘Gift Aid’ box on the donation form. We will then claim Gift Aid on that donation and future donations.
In store, all you need to do is complete the Gift Aid form once, and then let us know your name and postcode whenever you drop off goods so we can match your donation to you and claim Gift Aid.
What if I file my own self-assessment tax return?
Keep a record of your donations / Gift Aid value if you complete a self-assessment tax return.
For good donated in store, you’ll receive an auto-generated email on how much Gift Aid we claimed from their sale. When you donate online, you can calculate the additional value based on the donation plus 25%.
Do I need to contact the tax office?
No. Once you give us your permission for us to make a claim on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else. However, you need to make sure you will pay sufficient Income tax and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations per tax year. It is your responsibility to pay any difference.
What if I am a higher rate taxpayer?
The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office.
What to do if your tax status changes?
If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
