Running in memory of my precious Nana

When Giovanna Marchioli’s Nana, Sylvia, was diagnosed with cancer for the second time, Tynedale Hospice at Home provided nursing care to her in her home in her final weeks. Now Giovanna, along with her mam and sister are taking on this year’s Great North Run in her memory, hoping to raise an incredible £1,000 for the Hospice.

Giovanna said: “Tynedale Hospice at Home were absolutely brilliant throughout the whole time my Nana was ill. Their care and professionalism was outstanding and we felt so, so supported by them. Nana trusted them and they treated her with such care and dignity. It will mean so much knowing that we’ll be running in her memory and she’ll be in my thoughts every step of the way. We want to give something back to the Hospice who gave so much to our family at a time when we needed it most. Every step we take will be worth it.”

Were you lucky enough to get a place in this year’s ballot? If so, we’d love you to consider running in support of our Hospice so that we can help more families like the Marchiolis. To find out more about joining #TeamTynedale, call Cathy on 01434 606 444.

New Year, New Challenge?

If the start of 2018 has fired up your motivation and your imagination to do something amazing this year then look no further than here! We’ve got a whole host of challenges to choose from.  We call them our Life List of Challenges. You can pick one from the list or take on a whole host of challenges – it’s entirely up to you. And our enthusiastic Fundraising team who will support you every step of the way.

Whether a challenge to you means climbing to Everest Base Camp, cycling the Coast to Coast, running the Great North Run or taking part in the Great North Swim to name just a few things – the choice is yours! And if you have your own ideas, we’d love to hear them too.

Haydon Bridge resident Derrien Turrell took on the Great North Run last year, running in memory of her late husband. It was the first time she had ever done anything like this before.

“It really was the most amazing experience. The crowd, the atmosphere and the goodwill of all the people around us as we made our way along the route was incredible. I loved it and wouldn’t have missed it for the world. It was so brilliant that I’ve signed up for next year’s run!”
